1890s Victorian Rose Cut Bohemian Garnet Brooch
The most popular of the garnet varieties in the Victorian era was the Bohemian garnet. Known for its excellent clarity, transparency and high refraction of light, the Bohemian garnet's brilliant sparkle and rich deep color made it a favorite of all ages and all levels of society.
Traditional Victorian Bohemian jewelry design places emphasis on the arrangement of garnets, allowing them to shine and dominate over the metal in the piece. This dainty brooch is a beautiful example of just that!
Made of a special yellow metal and plated in gold, this brooch features a raised setting with two tiers of first-quality rose cut garnets arranged in a beautiful diamond floral motif.
It has a tube hinge and a safety catch, which looks like it was added on at a later date.
Condition: Very Good
The garnets are all clear and present. The C catch has been replaced with a safety catch and there is a soldered repair on the front of the brooch under the first raised tier of rhinestones on the left. It is not noticeable when you look at the brooch straight on, but is noticeable when you view it from the side. Priced accordingly.
