1920s Navy Wool Walking Suit with Black Soutache Design
Originally designed for the lady who liked to parade about town or take relaxing strolls around the lake, the ladies walking suit came into vogue during the Edwardian period. This beautiful wool set is from the early 1920s and is a stunning example of its kind.
This stunning suit looks as though it stepped off the pages of a history book. It is made in the USA and is of the highest quality.
Jacket has a full boxy cut, which was popular in the era. It has a shawl/Chelsea collar, capacious side pockets and beautiful geometric soutache trim around the pockets. Jacket is lined in silk and is weighted at the hem to help keep its straight shape. Jacket comes with original belt and Art Deco buttons.
I don't believe the skirt originally came with the jacket, but the original owner wore them together. They match perfectly in color but look to be made of two slightly different types of wool. This is only apparent under very close inspection.
The skirt is pleated and is attached to a very heavy weight grosgrain waistband. Skirt is unlined and fastens up the side with metal snaps and two hook and eyes.
This is truly a collector's piece.

Condition: Very Good
There are three little moth nibbles on the back of the collar and one near the sleeve cuff. Could easily be darned or worn as is. They are not noticeable. Jacket is missing one of its hem weights and the silk lining is stained and is starting to shatter at one of the shoulders. Still wearable as is. There are a couple of pills in the soutache trim that look like were caused when one thread ran out and the other began when the garment was made. Does not detract. Priced accordingly.
