1930s Amity Arts & Crafts Embossed Leather Envelope Clutch
Fashions and trends may come and go, but there are some that withstand the test of time. The Arts and Crafts movement is one of them.
Popular between the 1880s and 1910s, the Arts and Crafts movement focused on traditional craftsmanship -- everything was handmade, no industrial machines were used. It utilized simple forms and often took inspiration from medieval, romantic and folk styles of decoration.
Though the movement was displaced by Modernism in the 1930s, many artisans continued to embrace Arts and Crafts for generations to come.
This beautiful handbag is a wonderful example of the more traditional movement. Handcrafted in a lovely chestnut brown leather, this bag features a striking embossed flower in the center with two textured squares on either side. Purse is hand laced in darker leather around the edges. It has a short strap attached at the top. Fastens with a strong metal snap closure.
Inside is made of a soft suedelike leather. It has two small pockets and side bellows that allow the purse to expand to hold more. Inside is as clean as a tack! Looks like it has never been used.
Purse is stamped Amity Trademark.
Width: 1 1/8"
Opening: 4.5" max
Marked: Amity Trademark
Condition: Very Good
There is slight wear on the bottom corner of the purse and three small scratches in the leather near the bottom. The bellow side on the left pops out when closed from improper storage. It easily tucks in with a simple touch. Once this piece is in use, it should naturally fold inward. Strap is in excellent shape. Snap has some verdigris on the inside but is in great working order. Does not detract. Priced accordingly.
