1958 Arnold Scaasi Couture Silk Taffeta Butterfly Ball Gown
Arnold Scaasi said on many occasions that he was "not a minimalist designer" and this outstanding number is a perfect example of his avant-garde design aesthetic. Scaasi, who designed gowns for a number of presidential first ladies, socialites and celebrities, was known for his finely tailored suits and glamorous evening wear.
This jaw-dropping ensemble is from the early part of Scassi's career. It is fashioned in a beautiful ruby red matte silk taffeta with a black watercolor butterfly design. Gown sits off the shoulder in a criss-cross wrap fashion.
Two long panels hang off the back giving it a bow-like appearance. Gown fastens up the back with a metal zipper.
