Early 1950s Schiaparelli Couture Rhinestone Cardigan
Made by one of the most prominent fashion figures between the two world wars (and not to mention Coco Chanel's biggest rival), Elsa Schiaparelli is one of the most highly collectible names in vintage fashion. Known for her innovative use of textiles, Schiaparelli collaborated with the likes of Salvador Dali to create surrealist fashion.
This wool sweater hails from the tail end of her career, just before she closed her couture house in 1954. While it is not as surreal as some of her better-known pieces, it is still quite exquisite.
It is encrusted with dazzling faceted rhinestones and, as is standard with all Schiaparelli pieces, it garners attention.
