Mid-1960s Lilly Pulitzer Yellow Floral Shift Dress with Butterfly Collar
This adorable dress is as bright as the Florida sun and as cool as a tall glass of lemonade!
The idea behind this vivid dress came to be while designer Lilly Pulitzer was working at an orange juice stand in Palm Beach, FL. Looking for a way to camouflage messy citrus stains, Pulitzer designed her now-iconic sleeveless shift dress in colorful patterned cottons. Her dresses were such a hit that Pulitzer began selling her designs at her citrus stand.
It didn't take long before she was selling more dresses than juice and the designer decided to leave the orange groves behind to pursue a career in fashion.
Pulitzer's dresses were a favorite of many socialites in the Vanderbilt and Rockefeller families and even former first lady Jackie Kennedy!
One look at this dress and it's easy to see why her designs have become so highly coveted! Fashioned in a sunny yellow cotton with a white floral motif, this dress features a white cotton pique butterfly collar and complimenting patch pockets. It fastens up the back with a metal zipper.
Even 50 years later, this dress is still in vogue and is perfect for the girl on the go!
