As hemlines in the 1920s rose to new heights, printed, patterned and embellished stockings became all the rage with ladies who were ready to free their knees! Designs ranged from subtle patterns and delicate embroidery to wild florals and painted faces. These stunning and incredibly rare Van Raalte silk cutout stockings are a wonderful example of this exciting time in women's history!
Founded in 1913, Van Raalte was the purveyor of the finest silk gloves, hosiery and underwear, and his eye for detail is apparent in this pair. No matter if you're coming or going or standing still, there is some element of visual interest on every side of these stockings.
Elongated cutout starbursts frame the side of the legs, while two smaller designs accent the shin and the ankle. A seam runs up the back of the leg to meet a keyhole cutout at the top. Petite dots accentuate the seam.
