Rare Men's WWII Paris 1945 Trench Art Ring
This striking and beautifully hand-crafted ring is a wonderful homage to the end of the deadliest conflict in human history. Whoever carved this ring was truly an artist. The finite detail work is spectacular!
Trench art was a popular past time for soldiers, prisoners of war and civilians in the combat area. It afforded them an outlet to artistically express their feelings about the war or create something lovely for their sweetheart back home. The materials used to construct these tiny works of art were usually what the soldier had around him -- most often shell and bullet casings, wood and animal bone.
This particular piece looks like it may have been made out of a bullet or shell casing. It has a spectacular etching of the Eiffel Tower with the word "Paris" carved across the top and "1945" carved alongside. The ring itself has almost a Art Deco feel in the band design.
Definitely a one-of-a-kind piece!
Condition: Very Good
Ring shows overall signs of wear. Whoever owned this ring loved it and wore it often. However, there is still lots of life left in it. The gold tone is fading or completely rubbed off in spots. It has a nice antique patina. Band shank is slightly misshaped, which is not uncommon for trench art jewelry. Priced accordingly.
